2026 Butterfly Plaza Mural

Created in partnership with the Downtown San Leandro Community Benefit District and the San Leandro Arts, Culture, and Library Commission, this 450-square-foot mural spans three walls at 1446 Washington Ave in San Leandro. Named Friends in Your Neighborhood, the mural focuses on wildlife that can be found in San Leandro, including butterflies, birds, and flowers. "I wanted to create something as joyful and vibrant as I find San Leandro," says muralist Julia Marquis. "There are so many beautiful gardens and diverse natural spaces around here, and I wanted to include some of the creatures I regularly encounter on my walks."
This mural was funded through a grant awarded by the 2025 San Leandro Arts & Culture Grants Program, with additional funding by the Downtown San Leandro Community Benefit District. It was created in efforts to beautify an existing trash enclosure between Fieldwork Brewing Co, Sons of Liberty Alehouse, and Smack Burgers.
Downtown ARtWalk
Something vibrant is emerging in downtown San Leandro — and it’s not just paint on a wall. The City is unveiling a new series of interactive murals that merge art and technology. With just your phone, each mural transforms from a static image into a living, moving digital experience.
Welcome to ARtWalk, San Leandro’s first augmented-reality public art trail. Created in collaboration with the City of San Leandro, 440 Creates, and a talented collective of Bay Area artists, ARtWalk invites the community to explore familiar streets in a brand-new way. Every installation reveals a unique story, a burst of creativity, or a moment of surprise — all activated through augmented reality.
2025 Mosaic

Formerly the site of a fountain, the "Bell Planter" is one of the first public amenities people see when entering Downtown San Leandro. Due to damage sustained years ago, the planter became an eyesore despite the District's maintenance of drought-tolerant plants. With funding from the San Leandro Arts, Culture & Library Commission and the City of San Leandro’s Economic Development Department, Downtown San Leandro was able to commission local mosaic artist and muralist Christine Pacheco to repair the planter and give it new life!
