Help create a lasting, meaningful holiday tradition in Downtown San Leandro!
San Leandro is a beautifully diverse community, and the Downtown San Leandro Community Benefit District is looking for joyful design concepts that reflect that diversity. The project includes ten commissioned holiday trees, and we are looking for at least one design each to represent Hanukkah and Kwanza. Not all trees need to describe a specific holiday tradition. Design concepts can reflect what the holiday season embodies.
Project Details
The trees consist of two panels with a base of 36” and height of 58” that slot together into a three-dimensional design. Panels will be provided to the artists primed in white. The entire surface of both sides must be completely covered by a coherent design. Artists must seal the finished panels with a UV and anti-graffiti polyurethane product provided by the District. Trees will be affixed atop pedestals and displayed in the public right of way throughout Downtown San Leandro. Trees will remain on display during the month of December each year.
The completed application must include 3-5 high-resolution examples of previous work and a rough sketch of your proposed concept submitted electronically. If selected, a signed artist consent form giving Downtown San Leandro and the City of San Leandro a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to reproduce, modify for sizing, transmission, or distribution of the commission's art. As well as the use of your name, likeness, and biographical information.
Commission
Up to ten artists will be selected. The commission is $500 per tree. There will be no compensation for submission of portfolio or design concepts.
